Russian President Vladimir Putin: The potential of BRICS lies in its civilisational diversity

The Russian head of state highlighted the broad interest in the activities of the BRICS group

President of Russia Vladimir Putin received the letters of credence from 28 newly appointed ambassadors from foreign countries. Diplomats from Azerbaijan, Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Burkina Faso, India, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Niger, Ethiopia, and other nations attended the ceremony.

During his address, the Russian leader summarised the results of the XVI BRICS Summit held in Kazan. He noted that delegations from 35 countries attended the high-level meeting, which, in his words, demonstrated the wide interest in BRICS activities. Putin emphasised that each of these nations has its own path of development, unique models of economic growth, as well as rich histories and cultures.

“This civilisational diversity, this unique blend of national traditions and development models creates immense potential for the group. The role of BRICS in international affairs and the association’s influence continue to expand”

The Russian President noted that the member states, which joined the group in 2024, have quickly and seamlessly integrated into its work, contributing valuable and forward-looking ideas and initiatives.

Additionally, Putin stated that Moscow’s cooperation with countries of the Global South is mutually beneficial and built upon respect for each other’s sovereign interests. As an example, the Russian leader highlighted relations with India, which have reached the level of a specially privileged strategic partnership.

Addressing the ambassadors, the Russian President also noted the deepening cooperation with Africa, reminding attendees of the upcoming first Ministerial Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, set to take place in Sochi this week. He added that relations with the Commonwealth of Independent States, Asia, and Latin America can also be characterised in a similarly positive light.
