Russian researchers launch AI-powered dental health diagnostic service based on smile analysis
A team of researchers from Russian university has unveiled an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) service designed to assess dental and oral health through a simple smile photograph.
The system integrates computer vision and machine learning technologies, making early dental screening more accessible to the public. This is reported by the official website of Novosibirsk State University.
The service is based on a proprietary diagnostic methodology. Originally intended to promote oral hygiene awareness and assist in the selection of appropriate dental care products, the method has now been enhanced with AI capabilities to perform primary diagnostics through widely available digital platforms.
The AI-powered application analyses user-submitted images of their smile to detect potential early-stage dental issues such as inflammation and tooth decay, offering personalised care recommendations.
While the tool does not replace professional dental consultations, it allows users to identify possible problems early and seek timely specialist advice, experts believe.
