Saudi Arabia invests in aquaponics technology

The project will increase local biodiversity, enhance self-sufficiency, and ensure food security

Saudi Arabia is offering investors a unique opportunity to build a fish farm based on aquaponic technology. The Ministry of Environment, Water Resources, and Agriculture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is launching the project, which involves the establishment of a 40,000-square-meter farm in Jubail Governorate. This is reported by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Aquaponics is an environmentally friendly cultivation method that combines fish and plant farming. Fish waste is used to fertilise the plants, and the plants in turn purify the water for the fish. This approach provides:

  • increased biodiversity;

  • increased self-sufficiency in food production;

  • ensuring food security;

  • improved water quality in aquaculture;

  • production of environmentally friendly products without the use of chemicals.

Aquaponics technology can grow better crops with high yields and care for the environment.

The project is predicted to increase local biodiversity, increase self-sufficiency, and ensure food security.
