Saudi Green Initiative leads large-scale greening effort in Madinah's King Abdulaziz Protected Pasture

This initiative forms a crucial part of the Saudi Green Initiative’s commitment to restore vegetation cover across Saudi Arabia

In a major step towards Saudi Arabia's environmental goals, a comprehensive greening project took place in the King Abdulaziz Protected Pasture in Madinah’s Al-Hanakiyah governorate. Representatives from government entities, associations, and local communities joined forces to plant wild trees and scatter seeds, marking significant progress in the Kingdom's afforestation efforts under the Saudi Green Initiative, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

This initiative forms a crucial part of the Saudi Green Initiative’s commitment to restore vegetation cover across Saudi Arabia, combat desertification, and prevent soil erosion. Saudi Green Initiative, launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2021, reflects Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan, aiming to protect 30 per cent of the Kingdom’s land and sea, increase biodiversity, and foster sustainable development.

The National Centre for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with Madinah region officials, spearheaded the weekend’s activities.

The Saudi Green Initiative aims to create a pristine and healthy environment, mitigate pollution, rehabilitate desert lands, and enhance vegetation cover, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s broader environmental and economic transformation goals. Vision 2030’s umbrella framework not only targets environmental sustainability but also aims to empower citizens, attract investors, and diversify the Kingdom’s economy, positioning Saudi Arabia as a leader in global sustainability.
