Saudi hospital energy retrofit project reduces consumption and emissions

These updates aim to lower annual electricity consumption from 15 million to approximately 13 million kilowatt-hours

An energy efficiency initiative has been launched at a Saudi hospital in Arar, targeting a significant reduction in energy use and carbon emissions. This is reported by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Following extensive surveys and technical assessments, the hospital is set to implement advanced energy-saving measures across its 10 buildings, aligning with global sustainability standards.

Key enhancements include modernising HVAC systems, upgrading lighting to high-efficiency LED fixtures, and optimising control mechanisms, such as introducing a chiller plant management system and smart thermostats for air conditioning units.

These updates aim to lower annual electricity consumption from 15 million to approximately 13 million kilowatt-hours, representing a 14 per cent reduction.

The environmental benefits are notable, with savings equating to over 3,000 barrels of oil annually and a reduction in carbon emissions by approximately 1,000 metric tonnes—comparable to planting more than 20,000 trees each year.

This initiative supports the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which prioritises sustainability, energy conservation, and reduced environmental impact.
