Scientists from nine countries are shortlisted for the 2023 Global Energy Prize

The shortlisting marks the end of the second stage of the nomination cycle

The 2023 Global Energy Prize has been shortlisted by 15 scientists from nine countries, including China, India, Russia, Saudi Arabia and others.

"The large number of countries participating in the Global Energy nomination cycle and the emergence of new regions, underlines not only the high status of the Prize, but also reflects how important scientific activity and international dialogue is for the development of the global energy industry," said Nobel Laureate Rae Kwon Chung, Chairman of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee.

The formation of the shortlist was the conclusion of the second stage of the prize's nomination cycle. The first stage was the call for nominations which took place from 1 January to 20 April 2023. During this period 90 nominations were received from 48 countries: this was the highest number of participating countries in the history of the prize. The Global Energy Association acts as organiser. TV BRICS is the media partner of the event.

The received applications were handed over to independent experts, who evaluated them according to a fixed set of criteria. In each of the nominations: 'Conventional Energy', 'Unconventional Energy' and 'New Energy Applications', were identified by the five entries with the highest average score, which ultimately made the shortlist.

The laureates of the 2023 Global Energy Prize will be chosen during a closed meeting of the international committee at the beginning of July this year. A public ceremony to announce the names of the laureates will take place in person on 6 July 2023 in Kemerovo.

The awards ceremony will be held in October as part of the Russian Energy Week International Forum.

Reference. The Global Energy Association is a non-governmental organisation established in 2002 to promote research and innovation in the energy industry and aid the development of energy cooperation.

Since 2003 the association annually awards the international Global Energy Prize. The prize has been awarded to 48 scientists from 15 countries. The prize fund amounts to 39 million roubles.
