Sculptures of lions from China to return to the centre of Omsk
Copies of Chinese lions Shih Tzu will be placed in Museinaya street at the end of June. At the end of the 19th century they were presented to Omsk by the authorities of the province of Gansu, and became exhibits of Omsk State Museum of History and Regional Studies in the U.S.S.R. Igor Skandakov, the head of the Omsk Museum of Education, told about it at a press conference at the press centre of MKR-Media, a partner of the TV BRICS International Media Network in Russia.
According to him, the sculpture custing, which will be created from modern materials, will soon begin.
"There will be almost full copies of those sculptures that were installed in front of the Museum of the West Siberian Branch of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society (WSB IRGO) in 1896. They are an integral part of the street, which, by the way, has never changed its name. The museum building was still under construction, and the lions were already standing at the porch," said Igor Skandakov.
According to the director of the Museum of Education, the exact date of the lions' return to their historic place will depend on the meticulous process of casting and drying of the figures.
Before moving to Omsk, the Shih Tzu lions had been standing near the temple in Balikun since the middle of the 19th century.
