Sergey Ryabkov: recommendations on new BRICS partner countries to be presented by the summit in Kazan

The BRICS delegations will submit recommendations on the list of partner countries to the leaders of the BRICS countries by the October summit in Kazan. This was announced by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Russia's Sherpa in BRICS Sergey Ryabkov at a press conference on the priorities of the Russian presidency in the association.

“At the summit in Johannesburg last year, the leaders of our countries instructed to agree on the modalities of a new category of BRICS partner countries from the list of potential candidates. We expect to come out with concrete proposals on this issue by the summit in Kazan"

Sergey Ryabkov also noted that one of the main tasks of Russia's BRICS presidency is the "smooth entry" of new member countries into the work of all mechanisms of the association. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS

BRICS currently comprises 10 member states. In 2011, South Africa joined the original membership, which included Brazil, Russia, India and China. In August 2023, six new members were invited to join the association, including Argentina, but it later declined. Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia and Egypt officially joined BRICS on 1 January 2024.
