South Africa approves national tariff for free basic electricity
The South African National Energy Regulator (Nersa) has approved a tariff for free electricity for 2024, which will take effect next month. This is reported by BussinessTech.
For 2024, this indicator is set at 194.40 cents/kWh for the 2024/25 municipal fiscal year, starting on July 1.
According to the source, free basic electricity is the amount of electricity that is considered sufficient to provide basic electricity services to households.
According to officials, this amount of energy should be sufficient to provide basic lighting, access to mass media, heating water with a kettle, as well as basic lighting for household electricity consumers and non-grid systems.
