South Africa sees G20 as important vehicle for advancing the interests of the Global South

South Africa is looking forward to strengthening multilateralism at the upcoming G20 summit. This was stated by the country's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola at a press conference in Pretoria. 

Lamola said the G20 Leaders' Summit, to be held from 18 to 19 November in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, would be a key event where heads of state would endorse agreements reached during the year and determine approaches to address global challenges. This is reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

"South Africa is already playing an enhanced role as a member of the G20 Troika, together with Brazil and India," said Ronald Lamola.

The Minister also noted that South Africa sees the G20 as an important vehicle for advancing the interests of the Global South, in particular the development priorities of the African continent. Lamola added that the G20 will continue to support developing economies on the path to sustainable development.

South Africa will take over the G20 presidency from 1 December.
