South Africa to launch plan to facilitate the entry of tourists from China and India

The project is aimed at boosting South Africa's economic growth

South Africa will facilitate the entry of Chinese and Indian tourists through a new Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS) that will start from January 2025, as reported by  Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The project aims to improve tourist entry processes into the country as Chinese travelled more than 100 million trips abroad in 2023, but South Africa only accepted 93,000 of them, according to South Africa's Department of Home Affairs.

"With an initial focus on the burgeoning tourist markets of China and India, the TTOS will remove some of the key obstacles standing in the way of South Africa becoming a favored tourism destination for the second and fifth-largest economies in the world," read the statement.

South African Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber noted that the announcement is made while President Cyril Ramaphosa is in China for a state visit, to show that the government is serious about unlocking the country's tourism potential
