South African Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana: we intend to establish G20 Africa Expert Panel to support G20 Finance Track

South Africa aims to promote the interests of the African continent and the Global South during its G20 Presidency. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said this when he addressed a meeting of G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting in Sandton, Johannesburg. 

The Minister emphasised that the main objective of the Presidency will be to advance the African agenda. 

"To further this agenda and ensure that we strengthen the manner in which the G20 responds to the social and economic needs of our continent, we intend [to - editor's note] establish a G20 Africa Expert Panel to support the G20 Finance Track," he stated.

The group will focus on supporting initiatives, such as the Compact with Africa, to promote sustainable growth and address social challenges on the continent. 

Godongwana also noted the importance of reforming the G20 financial architecture to address global challenges including climate change, poverty eradication and sustainable development. 

Godongwana emphasised the key role of the private sector in realising the G20 agenda and assured that South Africa is ready to engage with business and international partners. This is reported by BusinessTech.

Earlier it became known that during the year South Africa will hold more than 130 meetings in all provinces of the country, hosting tens of thousands of guests from almost 30 countries and more than 20 international organisations. The Chairmanship will conclude in November 2025 with the G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg.
