The Brazilian Antarctic Station is ready for work
The Brazilian Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station on King George Island in the Admiralty Bay has been fully reconstructed after a fire, the correspondent of tvbrics.com reports with reference to rossaprimavera.ru.
The Brazilian Antarctic Station was built in 1984. In 2012, 70% of its facilities were destroyed due to a major fire.
They started reconstructing the station in 2017. The tender for the right of reconstruction was won by the Chinese Corporation for import and export of electronics. The reconstruction cost the Brazilian government USD 100 million.
Now 17 laboratories will operate on the station with an area of 4,500 square meters, where research in the fields of biology, oceanography, glaciology, meteorology, and anthropology will be conducted.
Recall that Brazil is part of a “select group” of 29 countries that have scientific stations in the Antarctic.
