The first state railway to be opened in Mato Grosso
Mato Grosso government has announced the signing of an agreement for Rumo to join the construction, implementation and operation of the first state-owned railway in Mato Grosso. Rumo is a logistics company specializing mainly on railway logistics in Brazil. Estadão reports.
According to the state government's statement, the contract signing gives the company a right to begin construction of 730 kilometers of railway that will connect the municipalities of Rondonopolis and Cuiaba, aling with Rondonopolis to Nova Mutum and Lucas do Rio Verde - these lines will be connected to the national railway network in direction towards Port of Santos (SP).
According to the state administration, the project assumes a R$ 11.2 billion investment for the construction of the state railway. From the start of works, the Delegated Public Services Regulatory Agency of the State will be responsible for progress monitoring.
“Rumo Logística conducted research shows that over the years of the railway construction, over 230,000 jobs will be created,” - the government of Mato Grosso said in a statement.
The section between Rondonopolis and Cuiaba is projected to be completed and operational in 2025, while the Cuiaba to Lucas do Rio Verde section is expected to begin operation in 2028.
Once implemented, Rumo is entitled to operate the railroad for 45 years, and the company can share the railway infrastructure with another rail transport company that will provide services in the state.
