The National Park of South Africa introduced a ban on photo geotags in social networks
The management of the oldest Kruger National Park in South Africa forbade tourists to use geotags on photos in social networks.
According to experts and employees of the national Park, poachers use tourists’ photos with geotags to track easily populations of rhinos and elephants, the correspondent of tvbrics.com reports with reference to ria.ru.
"People will be shocked to learn that their trip reports are being tracked by poachers," said IkeFahala, the representative of the National Park.
According to Fahala, poachers have several profiles in social networks and easily track the necessary information by tags.
Terrible statistics confirms the opinion of experts. In the first half of 2019, poachers killed 190 rhinos in the Kruger National Park. 71 elephants, a record number of animals, werekilled in 2018, and most recently a giraffe and three antelopes died at the hands of offenders.
