Tunisia runs seawater desalination plant

The seawater desalination plant is an innovative, low-carbon intensive desalination system

The plant is presently undergoing testing and will soon be put into service, giving the Southeast's drinking water industry a significant boost. This is reported by Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), a partner of TV BRICS.

The project is a component of the National Water Exploitation and Distribution Utility’s strategic plan, which aims to enhance South East water resources and make them accessible by 2035.

About 1.1 million people will utilise the plant, which will help satisfy the increasing demand for drinking water, enhance the quality of the water in the provinces of the South East, and prevent the recent water shortages that have occurred, particularly during periods of peak usage.

The anticipated daily production capacity of this desalination plant is 50,000 cubic metres, with the possibility of increasing it to 100,000 cubic metres.

Seawater desalination is a process in which salt and other constituents are removed to produce pure water.
