TV BRICS documentary “Uralian Anomaly” ranks among best works of journalism competition

The media network’s film is recognised in the category “Best material in an online media outlet”

The documentary film "Uralian Anomaly" by the TV BRICS International Media Network has become a laureate of the 9th Competition for Journalists, Media Outlets and Social Media Authors National Qualifications System. The project evaluated works dedicated to the labour market, vocational education and training. The film by the media network is recognised in the category Best material in an online media outlet.

A total of 180 applications were submitted to the competition in 2025. The winners were selected by an expert commission chaired by Aleksander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

"For the TV BRICS team, it is a great honour that our new film from the documentary series on the development of Russia’s mining industry has been recognised with an award in such a prestigious competition. When creating 'Uralian Anomaly', we aimed to tell the story of the profession of a geologist and show how years of experience and high technologies are combined in the practical work of modern specialists. The protagonists of the film are not simply resource extractors but custodians of professional traditions and holders of unique competencies. Their expertise forms the very foundation of the country’s economic sovereignty"

The film "Uralian Anomaly" (2025; author – Ksenia Komissarova; director – Andrey Porshnyak; cinematographer – Dmitry Golovko; producer – Liana Beltran-Belskaya) is dedicated to the work of modern geologists in the Urals and showcases advanced technologies for gold exploration and production. The film demonstrates how the legendary Russian geological school is preserved in the Sverdlovsk Region while simultaneously introducing cutting-edge methods of subsoil use.

In 2025, the film has already received the Audience Choice Award and become a laureate in the category "Best film about a profession and the development of human capital" at the MineMovie International Short Documentary Film Festival on the Mining Industry. It also received an award in the category "Best documentary film" at the international I-Film Festival in the UAE. The film was also presented at the International Film Festival "Leones de Fuego" in Bolivia and at the 19th International Low-Budget Film Festival (FIC Gibara) in Cuba.

Previously, the TV BRICS team filmed "Gold" and "More Precious than Gold" in Khabarovsk Territory, "Magadan Silver" in Magadan Region, and "The Golden Coast of the Arctic" in Chukotka Autonomous Area. These documentary films have been broadcast by TV BRICS media partners in Brazil, China, South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Argentina, and Venezuela.

The National Qualifications System competition has been held annually since 2017 with the support of the Union of Journalists of Russia.
