TV BRICS presents a concept for the international promotion of national cinema in Vladivostok
As part of the Russian Creative Week, Vladivostok hosted a master class dedicated to international cooperation between film festivals in the BRICS countries. Janna Tolstikova CEO of TV BRICS, President of Beijing Children Film and Television Festival Li Ge, and Upasana Mittal, Director General of theInnovative Film Festival (Bangalore, India) acted as experts.
Organising screenings of national documentaries from the BRICS countries at leading foreign film festivals is a unique format that has been proposed and successfully implemented by TV BRICS for several years. It promotes both the non-fiction film industry itself as a creative industry and the socially relevant agenda of a particular country through documentary film, as well as helping to popularise the genre and stimulate the development of quality film production.
Upasana Mittal thanked TV BRICS for the workshop during the Russian Creative Week and spoke about the cooperation with the media network to expand the geography of the International Innovation Film Festival.
“Over the past five years, there has been an excellent relationship between the Innovative Film Academy Bangalore in India and TV BRICS. We hold an annual International Innovation Film Festival. We have been organising this event for the past six years and are very proud to have worked with TV BRICS for a long time. We have organised annual screenings of documentaries and short films provided by TV BRICS. I am happy to say that we have received high praise and positive feedback on all the films screened," she said.
These special screenings complement the festival programme and attract new audiences.
"Moreover, two years ago we organised a screening of Dostoevsky Intercontinental, which was voted Best Documentary at the IV International Innovative Film Festival. I am convinced that film festivals are an excellent platform for promoting such contacts, cooperation and co-production opportunities between filmmakers, independent producers, young filmmakers and students. They allow us to join forces and launch work on common projects," added Mittal.
For his part, Li Ge said that any festival has three important components - people, products and events.
“People are participants from different countries. Why did I decide to attend the festival in Voronezh and other festivals? Because we need to expand on this platform so that everyone can learn about Chinese authors. Through participation in such events, people can get acquainted with authors from China, with our festivals and works. Products - these can be new, traditional or simply interesting pieces of work. This is the foundation of the festival, through which different authors from all over the world can be brought together. And the third component is events. We can communicate, interact, discuss the future of the film industry and its development together. Here we focus on international cooperation," said the president of the Beijing Children's Film and Television Festival.
TV BRICS is the media partner of the Russian Creative Week. Last year, TV BRICS media partners from China, South Africa, Brazil - CGTN, Durban TV, Metrópoles - spoke at "The New Geometry of Partnership Alliances" panel.
