TV BRICS to present new documentary film about Russia's gold mining industry in BRICS countries

The film will be adapted into foreign languages in the future

The TV BRICS International Media Network presents a new film about the development of the Russian mining industry. The project "Uralian Anomaly" tells about gold mining methods and the profession of a geologist. Filming took place in the Sverdlovsk region, one of the richest mineral and raw materials regions of the Russian Federation, which is also called the "Stone Belt".

The premiere of the film "Uralian Anomaly" will take place on 24 January 2025 at 15.30 Moscow time on the TV channel and portal of the TV BRICS International Media Network. At the same time the presentation of the film will take place at the International Arts Centre of Ekaterinburg. Later the film will be adapted into foreign languages and will be available for viewers of the media partners of the media network in BRICS and BRICS+ countries.

"The film ‘Uralian Anomaly’ is about one of the most interesting professions in the world, which is once again becoming popular and prestigious. As in the Soviet years, it is still filled with romance and adventure, but at the same time, thanks to modern trends, it is high-tech. From our business trip to the Urals we brought back video material that we consider a real treasure: we thank the picturesque region and the heroes of our project for it. For the first time in making a film about the mining industry, our team used the technique of historical reconstruction, which allowed us to achieve a realistic retrospective. On the footage of 'Uralian Anomaly' you can see a compass, a curvimetre, a 'Sly Eye' loupe, and other items that helped the predecessors of modern geologists to discover deposits. For us, it was a unique experience and an opportunity to fall in love with an amazing profession. If we had not become journalists, we would definitely want to connect our lives with geology and subsoil exploration"

Ksenia Komissarova Author of the film “Uralian Anomaly” and Editor-in-Chief of TV BRICS

Earlier, the TV BRICS team shot the films "Gold" and "More Precious than Gold" in Khabarovsk Krai, "Magadan Silver" in Magadan Oblast, and "The Golden Coast of the Arctic" in Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. These documentaries were shown by TV BRICS media partners in Brazil, China, South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Argentina, and Venezuela.

The film "Gold" opened the Annual BRICS Documentary Film Festival at the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA) in Brazil and became a diploma winner of the Russian Union of Journalists' competition for the best journalistic work of 2022. The film "More Precious than Gold" was recognised as the best in one of the nominations of the XXIX All-Russian Journalists' Contest "Economic Revival of Russia". The film "Magadan Silver" received a special prize of the III International Film Festival "Rendezvous with Russia. Territory of People's Unity" in Arkhangelsk. In 2024, The Golden Coast of the Arctic won an award at the VI International Mining Documentary Film Festival "MineMovie" and was presented at the Innovative International Film Festival in India.
