The UAE has invested $50 billion in renewable energy projects in more than 70 countries
BRICS High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change took place in Moscow. Two sessions were held during the event: the first was on “National Efforts to Combat Climate Change and Promote Sustainable Development", and the second focusing on the “Cooperation of the BRICS Countries on Climate Change and Sustainable Development”.
In the first session, Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, the UAE's Minister of Climate Change and the Environment highlighted that last year, the UAE announced a national commitment to reduce emissions by 40 per cent from the business-as-usual scenario by 2030, as stipulated in the third edition of the UAE's second NDC report. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
This commitment is in line with the country's strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and aims to reduce emissions from a holistic economic perspective.
Al Dahak also said that the UAE has invested US$50 billion in renewable energy projects in more than 70 countries and plans to invest another US$50 billion in the next decade.
“The UAE is committed to enhancing its national efforts to combat climate change and contributing to international initiatives in promoting climate action. Through various projects and initiatives, the UAE aims to directly contribute to achieving a sustainable future for both its citizens and humanity, as a whole,” she stated.
