Venezuelan researchers pioneer project to protect coral reefs
Researchers from Venezuela are creating special artificial reefs to help marine life recover and strengthen the ecosystem. Coral reefs are vital to the ocean. They support fish and other sea creatures while also protecting coastlines from storms and erosion. However, rising temperatures and pollution are putting them at risk.
The team is using cement structures designed to help young corals attach and grow. These artificial reefs copy natural ones but are built to survive harsher ocean conditions.
Venezuela already has 14 artificial reefs, but this project will set up research stations to study and protect them better. As reported by Venezolana de Television, a partner of TV BRICS, the goal is to save marine life, support fishing, and defend coastal areas.
