Video conferencing with African radio broadcasters takes place in Moscow
On Tuesday, 7 February, a round table discussion with major radio broadcasters from African countries, namely from Algeria, Mali, Senegal, Republic of Congo and Democratic Republic of Congo, was held in Moscow. The event was held by videoconference. It was broadcast live by International Media Group Rossiya Segodnya.
The participants discussed variants of radio development in the era of social networks, new radio formats, and talked about the increasing popularity of podcasts in the modern world.
Mohamed Baghali from Algeria, CEO of Radio Algérienne Media Holding, congratulated all participants on International Radio Day and outlined the role of radio in today's world.
"Radio is one of the most credible and powerful media, a trusted source by which people receive up-to-date information on world events,” he said.
Mohamed Baghali stressed that the role of the media is now increasing, and added that Algerian president said that country plans to establish and strengthen relations with African nations in 2023, including in the field of radio broadcasting.
The manager of the African Broadcasting Union, Gregoire Njaka from Senegal, said radio had become an important tool for social development in Africa.
"Radio broadcasting has helped to promote artists and musicians. Radio is an important way of communication in Africa now. It is the basis of all African media. And new technologies and digitalization make it possible to expand the reach of radio stations and attract new listeners,” he said.
World Radio Day is celebrated each year on 13 February. The celebration was launched in 2012 during the 36th session of UNESCO's General Conference. And the date was not chosen by chance, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the creation of UN Radio on 13 February 1946.
