Vladimir Putin addresses the participants of the 14th BRICS summit
The XIV BRICS summit opened on Thursday 23 June. As part of the forum, Russian president Vladimir Putin delivered a speech, as reported on the official website of the Russian leader.
In his address to the summit, the politician spoke about expanding cooperation between the countries of the association across the entire spectrum of issues on the global and regional agenda. He noted that the authority of the BRICS and its influence on the world stage is steadily growing.
"The complexity and transnational nature of the challenges and threats facing the international community require a search for collective responses with the active participation of our association," Putin stressed, noting the relevance of the topic of the meeting. This year it reads as follows: "Strengthening the high quality BRICS partnership, ushering in a new era of global development".
The Russian president added that only together will the bloc's nations be able to tackle challenges such as conflict resolution, combating climate change, the spread of dangerous infections and others.
"We are convinced that the leadership of the BRICS countries in developing a unifying, positive course towards a truly multipolar system of interstate relations, based on the universally recognized norms of international law and the key principles of the UN Charter, is needed now more than ever," the Russian leader said.
He added that Russia, for its part, was ready to further develop fruitful multifaceted interaction with all the partners in the alliance. The country will continue to contribute to enhancing the role of BRICS in international affairs.
