Vladimir Putin arrives in Turkmenistan for the sixth Caspian Summit on June 29
Moscow expects the Caspian summit on 29 June to confirm the strategic nature of multilateral cooperation in the region. Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Yury Ushakov told, as reported by the TV channel " Big Asia".
The summit will also be attended by the leaders of all Caspian states: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan. Ushakov recalled that meetings in the format of the Caspian "five" are held on a regular basis.
"We expect that the talks in Ashkhabad will lead to the confirmation of the strategic nature of multilateral cooperation in the Caspian Sea, and most importantly, the commitment to the principles of cooperation, which were fixed in the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, will be confirmed," he said.
Russia also expects that the discussion will result in the adoption of a communique of the sixth Caspian summit, which will set forth the agreed positions of the "five" on the further development of cooperation. The draft document is now being finalised.
According to the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin is expected to hold a number of bilateral talks with the summit participants.
