Voting in India to begin on 19 April

It will last a month and a half

Experts estimate that 960 million people in India are eligible to cast their votes, while the entire population of India is estimated at 1,4 billion.

Current Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, is expected to retain power for the next five years.

Voting will be held in seven phases across the country and will end on 1 June. Results should be announced by 4 June. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

Rajiv Kumar said that voters above 85 years of age (about 8,2 million people), as well as people with disabilities and the sick will be able to vote from home.

The rest of the citizens have to go to polling stations.
