Webinar on role of 5G in building South African new economy to be held on 25 March
Webinar on the role of 5G in building the South African developmental state, new infrastructure and a new economy will be held on 25 March from 11am to 1pm via Zoom.
The webinar is hosted by the Moja Research Institute (MRI) and seeks to explore the possibilities created by 5G technology to advance the developmental agenda in South Africa. At the same time, it is essential to look at the origin and role of disinformation around 5G in South Africa, and the impact it has had on the country’s efforts to combat the Corona-virus pandemic.

David Africa is the Executive Director of the African Centre for Security and Intelligence Praxis and Executive partner at Tsa Rona Analytics and Insight. He specializes in geopolitics, strategy and national security.
Speakers:
Dr Leon Rolls
Dr Leon Rolls is the founder and current president of the Progressive Blacks in ICT, which has more than 2000 members across South Africa, and is currently the Managing Director of Mzanzi Comnet, a 100% black owned telecoms and ISP SMME. Rolls has been in the ICT sector since 1995, and has worked in Government and Private sector. He is a Commissioner in the Presidential 4IR Commission.
Ms Nomso Kana
Ms Nomso Kana, a Nuclear Scientists is the founder and managing director of two startups: Sun n Shield 84 Technologies, which manufactures fibre optic cable, and Blaze Away SA, a business strategy firm. Kana was also appointed Governor of the Nuclear Energy Foundation and Agency, as well as Commissioner in the Presidential 4IR commission.
Dr Sibongiseni Thotsejane
Dr Sibongiseni Thotsejane completed her PHD in Information Systems at UCT in collaboration with Ryerson University of Canada. She currently serves on the Presidential 4IR commission as a Commissioner, and received the 2019 South African Women in Science Award (SAWiSA) for distinguished young women researcher. She is also on of the 2019 M&G Women Changing South African in Science, Technology , Engineering and Innovation.
Ms. Suraya Hamdulay
Ms. Suraya Hamdulay is an Executive Partner at Tsa-rona Insight and Analytics, a strategy and leadership development advisory firm. Suraya has more than 20 years’ experience in the ICT sector and has led major entrepreneurial programmes across South Africa and in the rest of the continent. She is the former.
Executive Head: Group Sustainability for the Vodacom Group.
Mr. Jak Koseff
Jak Koseff is an execution specialist on Economic and Investment Accleration initiatives and special projects , with experience in all 3 spheres of South African government. He is currently serving as Senior Advisor to the MEC for Economic Development, Environment , Agriculture and Rural Development in Gauteng and is also seconded to the Investment & Infrastructure Office in the Presidency working on mobilizing and enabling strategic investments. Jak holds a Masters in Public Administration jointly awarded by the London School of
Economics (LSE) and Columbia University in the City of New York, as well as a Masters In Politics from Rhodes University.
