Where South Africans to go on holiday this year

Some 74% plan to travel either domestically or abroad

Despite the high prices of petrol, airfares and road tolls, most South Africans are taking a holiday away from home this year during the festive season, as reported by BusinessTech.

The most popular domestic destinations are KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, while the majority of those who are about to cross the border have chosen other African countries as their holiday destination.

According to a survey made by research company InfoQuest, only one of five South Africans choose to stay home during their holiday, the rest 74% are planning to travel either domestically or abroad.

InfoQuest noted that about one in three of those who travel in South Africa will go to KwaZulu-Natal (37%), while 23% will head to the Western Cape and 18% will choose Mpumalanga, where the Kruger National Park is located.

Ranking South African provinces as holiday destinations during this festive season: KwaZulu-Natal - 37% Western Cape - 23% Mpumalanga - 18% Gauteng - 17% Eastern Cape - 15% Limpopo - 13% North West - 7% Northern Cape - 3%

Oceanfront holidays were the most preferred (57%), especially among women, while nearby mountainous provinces took 15% (and were preferred more by men), reported InfoQuest .

As for those who are planning to travel outside the country, the survey found that other countries on the continent are the most popular tourist destinations for South Africans.

According to the survey, young people (up to 34 years old) are more likely to go on holiday abroad. This is due to the fact that there are more single people in this age group and it is more profitable for them to travel than for a family with children, added InfoQuest.
