World leaders express condolences over terrorist attack in India

On Tuesday, 22 April, a terrorist attack took place near the town of Pahalgam in India. Most of the dead are tourists from different regions of the country.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia in connection with the terrorist attack. Immediately after arriving in New Delhi, the Prime Minister held an emergency meeting with ministers and representatives of other departments, reports ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

"I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam [...]. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected"

The international community condemned the attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram to his Indian counterpart Droupadi Murmu expressing deep condolences.

"I would like to reaffirm readiness to further increase cooperation with Indian partners in the fight against all forms and manifestations of terrorism," according to the information published on the official website of the Russian President.

Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, in a meeting with Modi, condemned what happened. He offered help to the Indian people.

For its part, the UAE Foreign Ministry wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.

"The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of India, and to the families of the victims of this heinous attack, as well as its wishes of a speedy recovery for all the injured," the Ministry's press office said.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said China opposes all forms of terrorism. In addition, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed India's support in confronting the violence.

Condolences were also expressed by President of Belarus Aleksander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, the South African Government, and the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry.
