Young Innovators Dialogue in Johannesburg highlights growing UAE–South Africa partnership

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in South Africa has hosted the Young Innovators Dialogue, an initiative aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs and fostering deeper economic and innovation ties between the two nations. This is reported by African Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Held in Sandton, Johannesburg, the dialogue brought together emerging innovators, mentors and investors to exchange ideas and explore collaboration across multiple sectors. The discussions focused on strengthening the innovation ecosystem, expanding access to finance, and building long-term partnerships between South African entrepreneurs and UAE institutions.

Speaking at the event, UAE Ambassador to South Africa Mahash Saeed Alhameli said the initiative reflects a shared belief that innovation and entrepreneurship are essential drivers of progress and mutual prosperity. 

“Our goal is to create a foundation for shared prosperity, mutual growth, and lasting partnerships between our nations,” he noted.

The dialogue also reinforced the strategic importance of the UAE–South Africa partnership. The two nations share strong bilateral and multilateral ties and continue to collaborate closely within international frameworks such as BRICS and the G20. South Africa notably supported the UAE’s accession to BRICS, reflecting mutual trust and a shared vision for equitable global development.

According to Jacob Ssali, Economic Advisor to the Ambassador of the UAE, the event was designed to introduce young South Africans to the UAE’s dynamic innovation landscape and to facilitate joint opportunities.

"The UAE is Africa’s biggest export and trade partner in the GCC region. South Africa is the UAE’s second-biggest trade partner in the African continent. When you are looking at investments, there have been major investment moves on both sides," said Jacob Ssali.

Beyond entrepreneurship, the event also addressed broader developmental priorities, such as early-stage mentorship and educational initiatives aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial skills from a young age. Discussions emphasised that cross-border cooperation can accelerate inclusive growth and expand opportunities for youth-led businesses across Africa.

The event’s outcomes are expected to further strengthen these economic connections, paving the way for new ventures and joint projects under the BRICS framework.
