Zimbabwe to launch first institute of disaster management in Southern Africa

The institute is expected to strengthen community-based recovery systems

Zimbabwe is set to establish its first-ever Institute of Civil Protection and Disaster Management, an initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s resilience against climate-related and other disasters. This is reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.

The institution, which will be developed in collaboration with regional and international partners, is expected to become the first of its kind in the region.

According toexperts, the initiative will begin with a certificate course in disaster and firefighting engineering. The first phase, expected to last five years, will involve sending personnel abroad for specialised training.

The full establishment of the institute is projected to take around a decade, positioning Zimbabwe as a regional leader in emergency management education, as reported by the source.
