Zimbabwean dance professionals are trained in Performing Arts, Business and Digital Distribution

Through the acquisition of arts management proficiency and financial acumen, dancers are now better prepared to navigate the complexities of the ever-evolving arts sector

The imperative for dance practitioners to be well-versed in arts management and financial literacy took center stage at the recent graduation ceremony, which marked the culmination of training in Performing Arts, Business, and Digital Distribution.

The event, which took place in Harare this Wednesday, showcased the achievements of 60 practitioners representing various dance ensembles. These accomplished individuals were honored with certificates, signifying the successful completion of comprehensive courses covering an array of subjects including arts management, financial literacy, artistic autonomy, responsible work engagement, tour administration, and digital distribution.

The driving force behind this progressive programme, Taurai Moyo of the Chenhaka Trust, elucidated the challenges confronting the sector that propelled him to conceptualize this innovative training initiative.

"Our exploration revealed challenges plaguing the arts sector, with a particular focus on the dance community. These obstacles encompass issues ranging from arts management and financial literacy to taxation matters. Those challenges are what prompted us to embark on this project," he commented.

The distinguished guest of honor at the event, Nicholas Moyo, Director of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, underscored the significance of equipping creative talents with multifaceted skills, as reported by ZBC news, a partner of TV BRICS.

Moyo emphasized that the absence of comprehensive management training hampers the advancement of the arts and creative industry, stating, "Our dancers recently concluded a rigorous training programme, which encompassed financial literacy, digital distribution, responsible work engagement, and artistic autonomy. These competencies are vital for artists, as their absence detrimentally affects their artistic expression."

The graduation ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of dance practitioners hailing from various provinces, underscoring the wide-ranging impact of this training initiative. Through the acquisition of arts management proficiency and financial acumen, these dancers are now better prepared to navigate the complexities of the ever-evolving arts sector.

As the event concluded, it became evident that this initiative serves as a significant stride toward cultivating a new generation of dance practitioners who possess not only the creative prowess to captivate audiences but also the sagacity to excel in the business facets of the arts. The fusion of artistic brilliance and astute management is poised to redefine the trajectory of the dance industry, ensuring its resilience and expansion in an ever-changing world.
