Zimbabwean government accelerates education reform with completion of 105 new schools this year

The investment in educational infrastructure supports state-run Sustainable Development Goal

In a transformative move to enhance educational access and quality, the Zimbabwean government has announced the successful construction of 105 new schools across urban and rural regions this year.

This milestone is part of a strategy to address the nation’s school infrastructure deficit and improve access to quality education, as reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE), Torerai Moyo, highlighted the government’s goal of aligning with international standards, which recommend that students should not have to travel more than five kilometres to access a school.

“Reducing the distance students must travel from their homes to school is a priority. We aim to meet international conventions ensuring students can attend schools closer to their communities,” he said.

The robust investment in educational infrastructure supports Sustainable Development Goal 4, which seeks to guarantee inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

By prioritising access to education and reducing barriers for learners, the government is paving the way for an innovative transformation in this field.
