Hearing restoration: Russian scientists have invented an eardrum implant
Scientists from the Sechenov University have transplanted a 3D bioprinter-printed analogue of the eardrum to a laboratory chinchilla, thus making a real scientific discovery. One month after the operation, the structure of the chinchilla's eardrum had almost completely regenerated, which meant that its hearing was restored. Scientists began to study the operated organ and could not even find the point where the bioequivalent was introduced.
What was the reason for such a rapid recovery? How the chinchilla feels now and whether we can soon expect the technology to be tested on patients - watch our video.
