At the end of August and beginning of September, India's regions celebrate Onam, a colourful festival celebrating the harvest.
This year, the country's Ministry of Agriculture has provided subsidies to farmers for the purchase of fertiliser so that local residents can decorate their homes with flowers on the eve of the holiday.
