My India. An ancient Hindu holiday Chhath Puja
Observed on Kartik Shukla Shashti as per Hindu solar calendar, Chhath Pooja traces its origin to prehistoric Vedic times and has now got a special significance as a folk festival. The rituals and traditions of the festival are very hard as the devotees had to fast for 36 hours without a single bite of food or a drop of water.
On the first day also known as Nahai Khai, devotees or Vrattis take a bath, particularly in the river Ganga and bring the holy water of the river to make Prasad at home. For more details, see the video by ANI, a partner of the TV BRICS network.
