My India. Shumang Leela Festival

In India, every region has its own style and pattern of art, popularly known as folk art, which is very ethnic and simple, yet colourful and vibrant enough to speak volumes about country’s rich heritage. Though with modernization, some of these folk art forms are dying a slow death but still there are many, who have kept their charm alive. One among them is a traditional form of theatre in Manipur which for many years is playing a great role in connecting the younger generation to its traditional roots of art and culture.

Dressed up in traditional tribal costumes, several folk artists in eastern state of Manipur presented their brilliant performances at the 17th Shumang Leela Festival held in the capital, Imphal.
