Hundreds of thousands of devotees across India thronged temples to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Hindu Elephant God Ganesh as they offered prayers to the deity of prosperity. Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated in honor of Lord Ganesh who is considered the deity of prosperity by Hindus. The festival is majorly celebrated in the western and southern parts of the country.
