ASEAN leaders to adopt AI Safety Network Framework
Leaders at the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit are expected to endorse a declaration for the establishment of the ASEAN AI Safety Network (ASEAN AI Safe), marking a new step towards a unified approach to artificial intelligence (AI) safety, ethics, and governance within the region.
The initiative aligns with the ASEAN Responsible AI Roadmap and reflects a broader commitment to addressing the potential risks associated with AI development, according to ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.
Speaking at the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence (AI) Malaysia Summit 2025, Kao Kim Hourn emphasised the importance of regional collaboration in navigating the transformative growth of AI across economies and societies.
“ASEAN AI Safe underscores the commitment to responsible AI development and looks forward to the network's formal establishment by early 2026,” he stated.
Furthermore, ASEAN is prioritising the ASEAN Digital Economic Framework Agreement this year, aiming to build upon the existing regional digital ecosystem, as reported by Bernama, a partner of TV BRICS.
This framework has the potential to double the projected economic impact to US$2 trillion by 2030, fostering inclusive development and driving the collective digital transformation of the region, the source claims.
