China's oil and gas output surpasses 400 million tonnes

In 2024, China’s crude oil production reached 213 million tonnes

China's combined crude oil and natural gas output has achieved a historic milestone, exceeding 400 million tonnes of oil equivalent for the first time in 2024, as reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, with a reference to China's National Energy Administration.

The administration further noted that the country's crude oil and natural gas output has maintained a robust annual growth of over 10 million tonnes for eight consecutive years.

In 2024, China’s crude oil production reached 213 million tonnes, a substantial increase of 24 million tonnes from 2018. Natural gas production also reached a significant high, totalling 246.4 billion cubic meters, with an average annual growth of more than 13 billion cubic meters over the past six years.

Offshore and unconventional reserves are now the primary drivers of this production growth, with China’s shale oil output surging to 6 million tonnes in 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of over 30 percent.

Furthermore, China’s shale gas production has remained consistently strong, exceeding 25 billion cubic meters.
