Crude steel production rises 0.4% in January to 2.7 million tonnes

Crude steel production in Brazil was 2,7 million tonnes, an increase of 0.4% compared to the same month in 2023. Production of rolled products was 2 million tonnes, 8% higher than in January 2023. Production of semi-finished products for sale was 721,000 tonnes, down 16,2% on the same month in 2023, according to preliminary figures released by the Brazil Steel Institute.

Domestic sales rose 1.5% compared to January 2023 and reached 1,6 million tonnes. Apparent consumption of steel products was 1,9 million tonnes, 1,4% higher than in the same period in 2023. This is reported by  Agencia CMA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Exports in January 2024 were 967,000 tonnes, or US$ 695 million, which resulted in an increase of 1,8% and a fall of 11,2%, respectively, compared to the same month in 2023. According to the institute, in last month's data, export volumes were recorded through operations with advance shipments, which generally record volumes higher than those actually exported.
