India's Ministry of Heavy Industries unveils Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024

The scheme incentivises vehicles equipped with advanced battery technology to encourage adoption of advanced solutions in the EV sector

According to a press release from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the project aims to accelerate the transition to green mobility and support the development of electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem in the country.

Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS 2024) aims to promote electric two-wheelers (e-2W) and three-wheelers (e-3W), primarily registered for commercial purposes.

However, private or corporate electric vehicles can also participate in the programme, which is in line with the broader objective of providing affordable and sustainable transport to the masses.

The scheme incentivises vehicles equipped with advanced battery technology to encourage adoption of advanced solutions in the EV sector.
In line with the vision of Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), EMPS 2024 aims to develop an efficient, competitive and sustainable EV industry in the country.

As one of the fastest growing economies in the world, India is experiencing significant growth in energy demand. The energy mix is characterised by dependence on traditional sources such as coal, which still accounts for a significant portion of power generation. There is also a gradual but marked shift towards renewable energy, driven by ambitious targets and policies to diversify the energy portfolio. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

These policies reflect the country's endeavour to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
