India to test satellite docking technology with innovative mission launch

The two satellites designed to synchronise in orbit, approach each other, dock, and facilitate energy transfer

India's space agency is set to launch the Spadex mission, aiming to test cost-effective satellite docking technology in orbit. This innovative mission involves deploying two 220-kilogram satellites into a circular orbit at an altitude of 470 kilometres.

Once in orbit, the satellites will conduct docking exercises, coming together and then separating to a distance of approximately 10 to 20 kilometres. This mission represents a critical step for India’s space ambitions, which include lunar missions, sample returns from the Moon, and the development and operation of a space station. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Indian mission utilises two satellites designed to synchronise in orbit, approach each other, dock, and facilitate energy transfer. After separation, both satellites will remain operational for an additional two years, continuing to demonstrate advanced technologies.

Earlier this year, India successfully launched the Earth observation satellite, reinforcing its commitment to cost-efficient and versatile satellite transportation. Spadex is another step forward in India's drive to solidify its position as a global leader in space innovation.
