Kazakhstan’s oil and fat industry boosts export revenue to US$963 million

Kazakhstan’s oil and fat industry has increased export revenue fourfold over the past four years, reaching US$963 million, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin. This was reported by the government's website.

Serik Zhumangarin emphasised that the oil and fat sector has evolved into one of the strategic pillars of Kazakhstan’s national economy and has become an example of successful value-added production development.

According to the minister, export earnings from Kazakhstan’s oil and fat products rose from US$240 million to US$963 million within four years, while production reached a record 1.6 million tonnes. The industry now accounts for 27 per cent of the country’s processed agricultural exports. He noted that state support measures, investment attraction and the expansion of processing capacities have also stimulated agricultural development, increased farmers’ profitability and contributed to the growth of transport and export infrastructure.

Kazakhstan currently ranks sixth globally in sunflower oil exports and is the second largest supplier of the product to the Chinese market. Zhumangarin stated that the next objective is to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position among the world’s leading exporters through the implementation of the 2026–2028 Roadmap for the Development of Exports of Oil and Fat Products.

"Our goal is to increase the industry’s foreign currency revenue to more than US$1.5 billion, strengthen Kazakhstan’s position among the world’s largest sunflower oil exporters, and create a foundation for entering the top three global leaders in the industry," stressed the minister.

In 2026, vegetable oil was transferred onto a sea vessel for the first time at the port of Aktau. In addition, sunflower oil was delivered for the first time from East Kazakhstan Region to China’s Jiangsu Province in 40-foot flexitank containers, covering 4,700 kilometres in 12 days and demonstrating the efficiency of container transportation.
