Saudi Arabia develops production of materials for innovative cancer therapies
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) has mastered the technology of CAR T-cell production, as reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Patients who are located in the Kingdom will now be able to access the treatment in 14 days instead of 21-28 days. Previously, materials for the therapy were manufactured abroad and their delivery was complicated by supply chain failures.
The localisation of CAR T-cell production was made possible through collaboration between different departments at the KFSHRC.
The report specifies that T-cell therapy is one of the latest developments in the treatment of oncology. It consists of injecting modified immune cells into the patient to recognise and destroy cancer cells.
