Specialists increase forecast of grain and oilseed crops harvest in South Africa

The profile committee has increased the forecast of grain and oilseed crops harvest in South Africa for 2023-2024 by 0.6 per cent compared to last month, to 16 million tonnes. This is reported by Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.

Chamber of Agribusiness South Africa (Agbiz) chief economist Wandile Sihlobo said this year's white and yellow maize crop could be 6.3 million tonnes and 7.1 million tonnes respectively. He elaborated that after revising the forecast, experts expect this year's maize harvest to be 13.4 million tonnes, up 0.7 per cent from last month's estimate.

The forecast for this year's groundnut crop was 54 440 tonnes, up 3 per cent from the previous estimate, sorghum 95 830 tonnes (up 2 per cent) and beans 52 190 tonnes (up 4 per cent).
