UAE launches Blue Residency scheme to attract sustainability pioneers

The programme builds on the UAE’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a global hub for sustainability and climate action

The United Arab Emirates has officially launched the first phase of the Blue Residency scheme, a long-term visa programme designed to recognise individuals with exceptional contributions to sustainability, environmental protection, and clean energy. The announcement was made during the 2025 World Government Summit, taking place in Dubai from 11 to 13 February. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

The Blue Residency offers a 10-year visa to distinguished experts, researchers, innovators, and investors in sustainability-related fields, both from within the UAE and internationally. As part of the initial phase, 20 leading sustainability figures have already been granted this prestigious residency status.

The programme builds on the UAE’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a global hub for sustainability and climate action. The application process is managed through an online system developed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Candidates can apply via government entities related to sustainability sectors, ensuring a streamlined and transparent selection process.

The scheme is available to four key categories: prominent influencers and contributors to sustainability, renowned scientists and researchers in climate and environmental fields, entrepreneurs and investors in green industries, and top-tier professionals in environmental organisations. Eligible individuals benefit from family sponsorship, multi-entry visas, and renewable 10-year residency, making the UAE a prime destination for sustainability pioneers.

The launch of the Blue Residency further supports the UAE’s strategy for economic diversification and sustainable development, aligning with its long-term vision to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
