China highlights importance of BRICS for global cooperation
The head of the office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee held a conversation with a special assistant to the Brazilian president
China considers BRICS group the most important platform for strengthening solidarity and cooperation among developing countries. This was stated by Wang Yi, head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, in a telephone conversation with Celso Amorim, special assistant to the Brazilian president.
According to official sources, during the dialogue, the Chinese leader assured that BRICS (a grouping that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) is the central mechanism representing the countries of the South.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said the bloc should play a greater role in world affairs because of the growing uncertainty at the global level.
He added that China and Brazil are responsible for revitalising BRICS, the main objective of the association being to make a new contribution to promoting a multipolar world and the democratisation of international relations.
For his part, Amorim noted that in the current situation, BRICS is playing an increasingly prominent role in promoting peace, stability and development.
Brazil, Amorim assured, is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China, jointly support South Africa's work as BRICS chair in 2023, ensure a successful leaders' meeting and demonstrate the bloc's unity.
According to official reports, the parties also agreed to move forward with the implementation of the consensus reached during President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's visit to China, as reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
