Egyptian artefacts to be unveiled at exhibition in China

The latest archaeological finds will be among the exhibits

The Shanghai Museum will host "On Top of the Pyramids: The Civilisation Exhibition of Ancient Egypt", an exhibition featuring Egyptian treasures that arrived in Shanghai, from July 19 to August 17. This is reported by CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

Out of the two antiquities, the bust-sized replica of the 4 metre-tall statue of Akhenaten, the king of the 18th dynasty of the New Egyptian Kingdom, will be on exhibit. The other is a colourful mummy coffin that was recently unearthed at the Saqqara necropolis. It has inscriptions running from the middle to the base.

The planners from China and Egypt made the decision to fly these historic relics to Shanghai in a specially chartered cargo jet in order to better safeguard them.

According to Shanghai Museum director Chu Xiaobo, over 95 per cent of the collection's 788 pieces are making their Asian debuts and span several eras of ancient Egypt.
