Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi: India's goal is to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030

The Indian Prime Minister also said that the republic's leadership plans to increase renewable energy capacity by 500 GW

The India Energy Week 2025 kicked off in New Delhi on 11 February. During the opening of the event, country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented an ambitious strategy for the development of India's energy sector. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the coming decades will be key for economic growth and sustainable development. According to him, by 2030 the Indian leadership plans to increase renewable energy capacity by 500 GW and annually produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen. In addition, Indian Railways aims to achieve carbon neutrality by this date.

"India is the third-largest solar power generating nation in the world. Our non-fossil fuel energy capacity has tripled. Currently, India has achieved 19 per cent ethanol blending, and we are on track to implement a 20 per cent ethanol mandate before October 2025"

Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India

Modi also highlighted the rapid growth of the biofuels industry in the country. He added that the Global Biofuels Alliance, launched during India's G20 presidency, continues to expand with 28 countries and 12 international organisations already joining the initiative. He also spoke about introducing new reforms to unlock the potential of the country's hydrocarbon resources.

The India Energy Week is being organised for the third time and is being held in the national capital from February 11 to 14. According to the organisers, more than 700 companies from 120 countries will participate in the event.
