Russia delivers 1.4 thousand tonnes of grain to Bolivia as humanitarian aid

The shipment will help strengthen the country’s food security and support social programmes of the Latin American state

An official ceremony marking the handover of humanitarian aid from Russia in the amount of 1.4 thousand tonnes of grain took place in Bolivia. The shipment, valued at about US$2 million, is aimed at strengthening national food security, the press service of the Russian Embassy in the South American state said.

The volume, equivalent to more than 87,000 bags of flour weighing 11.5 kg each, will make it possible to expand the coverage of state social programmes and support the population throughout Bolivia.

During the visit, Russian Ambassador to Bolivia Dmitry Verchenko held a working meeting with participants in the project. Those taking part included Bolivia’s Minister of Productive Development, Agriculture and Water Resources Oscar Mario Justiniano; General Director of the state-owned company EMAPA Sergio Siles; the World Food Programme’s Representative in Bolivia Alejandro Lopez-Chicheri; and the Mayor of the Municipality of Viacha Napoleon Yahuasi Mamani. The parties discussed practical issues related to the implementation of the aid and further steps to develop cooperation.

In the course of the discussion, Verchenko stressed that this action is a sign of solidarity and confirms Russia’s status as a reliable partner of the South American state.

“Russia has been, is and will remain ready to support Bolivia in the years to come. Our common task is to ensure that international cooperation delivers concrete results, directly affects people’s lives and contributes to building a more stable and just future,” he added.

Participants in the event familiarised themselves with the operation of production and storage facilities. Particular attention was paid to the transparency and efficiency of all stages of the process – from the receipt of the grain to its processing.

The initiative was implemented within the framework of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the United Nations World Food Programme, in close interaction with Bolivia’s state institutions. It is noted that the event demonstrated a high level of mutual trust and partnership between the two countries.

Such cooperation in the grain sector underscores the strategic importance of this industry for global food stability, as detailed in the documentary series “BRICS Grain” on TV BRICS, which highlights agricultural technologies and the economic role of grain crops.
